The word reiki is used to describe many types of healing and spiritual work. One type of reiki, or system of healing, is the Usui (Ewe shoe e) method. It is called the Usui System of Natural Healing or in Japanese, Usui Reiki Ryoho. The word "reiki" combines the two Japanese words, rei (ray) which means "spirit" or "soul," and ki (key) means "energy," or "life force". So in English, reiki (ray key) means "Universal Life Force." In Usui Reiki, practitioners channel and focus the Universal Life Force from its source to themselves or to others who need its healing energy. The source of Reiki energy is the creation energy of the universe; the energy that creates all living things. Some people call this creator or god energy. There are many books and magazine
articles that documented Reiki healing and even hospitals are starting to
recognize the benefits of Reiki in the patient's healing process.
Once you are attuned as a practitioner you will have the ability to heal yourself and others. But the best place to start is with self-healing. During your self-healing journey you will enhance your abilities to use Reiki and increase your sensitivity to the flow of the energy. Hand Positions for Healing Yourself
There are four on the front of the
body, four on the back of the body, and four on the head. Always begin
with your face and move down the body in order to make sure you don’t
neglect any part of your body.
You should allow about five minutes at each position so that each area is given equal attention. As you go through each hand position, remember that you only need a gentle touch. Heavy pressure is not needed since you are working with energy exchange. You will see later that even touch is not required. When you first start, it is a good
idea to remove any rings or bracelets from your fingers and wrist. The
vibrations and energy of gold, silver, or gemstones can affect the
vibration you feel in your body. After practicing the hand positions in this order for a period of time it is possible that you will feel the need to deviate from this pattern. You will begin to acquire your own methodology in placing your hands on your body by listening to your inner voice or intuition. Hand Positions for Healing Others The hand placement for giving Reiki treatments to others are similar to those you use for self-healing. These positions will help you focus your intention during the healing sessions. You should allow 3 to 5 minutes per
hand position. A full body treatment will normally last 60 to 90 minutes.
However, the hand positions are just guidelines until you develop your
sensitivity enough to work intuitively. The amount of time you stay on
each area will change as you learn to feel wh Enhancing Your Reiki Energy for Better Healing If you want to learn how kids can enhance their reiki energy click here to go to the Enhancing Energy page.
